HumaLingo is a paid AI humanizer and AI detector from Krivis ai, a Lithuanian company, bundled with a plagiarism checker and a paraphraser. The short answer in this HumaLingo review: the toolset is broad, but there is no free plan, and as of October 2026 its $2 trial renews at $39.99 a month. Our top pick is Essai.

Essai gives you an AI humanizer designed to keep your meaning and a free AI detector in one web app, and you can start without signing up or entering a card. Below, you'll see what HumaLingo costs as of October 2026, what its terms say about trials and refunds, what its own users complain about, and why we rate Essai as the best AI humanizer and detector on the market for students and writers.

Bottom line: HumaLingo packs a lot into one subscription, but it lists no free plan, the trial renews at twice the regular monthly price, and refunds after the trial are ruled out. If you want a humanizer and an AI detector you can start using free today, go with Essai.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Several tools under one login. The AI detector, AI humanizer and plagiarism checker sit side by side, with a paraphraser and a word counter as extras.
  • Detector reports with reasons. Deep Analysis highlights the sentences behind the score and adds a structural overview and a readability score.
  • Detailed rewrite settings. You choose a purpose, a matching tone and a creative or technical mode for each rewrite.

Cons

  • No free plan. The pricing page lists no free plan, HumaLingo publishes no free word or scan allowance, and each plan card is framed around releasing the text you have already pasted.
  • A trial that renews high. As of October 2026, the $2.00 7-day access turns into a $39.99 monthly plan unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. That is $20 a month more than the regular Monthly plan.
  • Strict refund terms. The terms of use treat access as delivered as soon as it is available and rule out refunds if you cancel after the trial period.
  • Unverified accuracy claims. HumaLingo publishes no accuracy rate or test dataset, and its comparison page against GPTZero names no method.
  • "Entertainment purposes" fine print. The terms describe the services as provided for entertainment purposes and make no representation about accuracy.
  • Personal use only. Buyers must confirm they are purchasing for personal use, and HumaLingo may reject commercial purchases, even though the site says it is built for teams too.
  • Billing complaints. Recent one-star Trustpilot reviews keep returning to post-trial charges, refused refunds and human writing flagged as AI.

Key features

HumaLingo covers detection, rewriting and plagiarism checks, but it lists no free plan, and several features are reserved for the two full plans.

AI detector

You paste text and pick one of two modes: Deep Analysis, which HumaLingo calls "in-depth, explanatory analysis," or Turbo Scan, a "rapid scan for key points." According to the Deep Analysis page, the detailed report shows a human and AI-written score, flagged sentences marked in place, the share of sentences with AI-typical structure and a readability score. From the same report you can run a plagiarism check or send flagged passages straight to the humanizer.

HumaLingo lists 11 detection languages, among them English, Spanish, French, Polish, Indonesian and Chinese. The limit to know: sentence-level AI highlights appear on the Monthly and Annual plan cards, not on the 7-day access card.

AI humanizer

The humanizer rewrites any text you paste, guided by three settings. First you pick a purpose (HumaLingo's examples are to inform, persuade, reflect or analyze). Then you choose a tone such as formal, casual, confident or neutral, and the tone list shifts with the purpose you picked. Last comes a creative or technical mode. Optional switches on the Extra Tools page handle formatting and output length, keep citations in place and add a short summary.

The catch is in the plan cards. The 7-day access card lists "Standard Intelligence & Speed" and limited daily usage, while the "Pro" detector and humanizer models and faster generation come only with the Monthly and Annual plans.

Plagiarism checker and paraphraser

The plagiarism checker returns a plagiarism score, lists the sources behind each matched passage and can insert citations for them. HumaLingo's product pages don't state word limits or which databases are searched. A separate paraphraser offers the same tone and purpose controls, and a word counter rounds out the set.

Privacy and data handling

HumaLingo's statements about the text you paste change from page to page:

  • The detector's privacy panel says text is "not stored, sold or shared" and promises "no trace after checking."
  • The FAQ says pasted text "is stored only for your reference and is deleted when you clear your history."
  • The terms of use say "test results" may be stored with your details to improve the service, and the privacy policy keeps account data, including "tests' results," for 5 years after your last login.

If privacy matters for your work, clear your history after every session.

HumaLingo pricing (as of October 2026)

HumaLingo sells three self-serve options. The figures below are what HumaLingo's pricing page showed US visitors as of October 2026.

PlanUS priceHow billing worksWhat the plan card lists
7-Day Access$2.00Becomes $39.99/month after 7 days unless canceled at least 24 hours before the endLimited history, standard intelligence and speed, tone and style controls, limited daily usage
Monthly$19.99/monthRenews every monthUnlimited access to all features, Pro detector and humanizer models, faster generation, sentence-level AI highlights
Annual$9.99/monthBilled yearly; the page shows only the monthly equivalentSame features as the Monthly plan

The billing rules, according to the pricing page, the subscription terms and the terms of use:

  • No free tier. There is no free plan, and HumaLingo publishes no free allowance for the detector or the humanizer.
  • Anchor prices. Both full plans show a crossed-out $49.99 next to the price you actually pay.
  • Regional prices. Visitors in Europe see €19.99 a month, €9.99 a month billed yearly, and €2.00 for 7 days followed by €34.99 a month.
  • Student discount. Students verified through Student Beans get 10% off standard monthly and yearly prices, and the discount can't be combined with the trial.
  • Renewals and cancellation. Plans renew automatically. You can cancel in your account settings or by emailing support, and the terms say email requests are processed within 72 hours. Deleting your account does not cancel the subscription.
  • Refunds. Digital access counts as delivered once it is available, HumaLingo is not obliged to refund services already delivered, and canceling after the trial period does not qualify for a refund.
  • Who collects payment. Depending on your location or checkout flow, payment may be collected by Oriava Inc., a US company acting as HumaLingo's payment collection agent.

How Essai compares: you can use Essai's humanizer for up to 125 words per request and its AI detector without paying anything, so there is no trial to cancel before you know whether you like it. On monthly billing, Essai Basic costs $14.99 a month, $5 less than HumaLingo's Monthly plan, as of October 2026. Every plan is on the Essai pricing page.

Is HumaLingo accurate?

HumaLingo publishes no accuracy rate, test dataset or audit for its AI detector. What it does publish are claims:

  • A GPTZero comparison without sources. On its detector comparison page, HumaLingo rates its own real-world accuracy as "consistent performance" and puts GPTZero at "60-70% in real conditions," with no dataset, date or method.
  • Specs that don't match. The same page promises 3-5 second results and support for 100+ languages, while the home page lists 11 detection languages.
  • Big adoption claims. HumaLingo's comparison pages say 800,000+ students, writers and professionals chose it, and the student page calls the detector "industry-leading."
  • A disclaimer in the terms. The terms of use say the services are provided for entertainment purposes and make no representation about the accuracy of the site.

The comparison page also counts humanized-text detection, meaning AI text that has been through a humanizer or paraphraser, among its criteria. That claim deserves extra skepticism, because published research shows rewritten text is exactly where detectors struggle:

  • Paraphrasing defeats detectors. Krishna et al. (2023) built a paraphrasing model that cut DetectGPT's detection accuracy from 70.3% to 4.6% at a constant 1% false positive rate, without appreciably changing what the text meant.
  • Bias against non-native writers. In Liang et al. (2023), later published in Patterns, seven widely used detectors misclassified over half of 91 TOEFL essays by non-native English writers, and at least one detector flagged 89 of the 91 as AI-generated.
  • Even AI labs have struggled. OpenAI shut down its own AI text classifier in July 2023 over its "low rate of accuracy," TechCrunch reported.
  • Schools have pulled back. Vanderbilt University disabled Turnitin's AI detector in August 2023, noting that a 1% false positive rate across the 75,000 papers it submitted in 2022 could have meant around 750 papers labeled incorrectly.

HumaLingo's own users describe the same problem. Several one-star Trustpilot reviewers say the detector rated writing they produced themselves, including work written before AI tools existed, as mostly AI-generated.

In Essai's internal testing, our AI detector outperformed other AI detectors on many of the criteria we track.

Essai's free AI detector returns an AI probability score from 0 to 100 and works best on 150+ words, so give it at least a full paragraph. Read any detector score, ours included, as a signal to review rather than a verdict. If your own writing gets flagged, our guide to AI detection false positives walks you through what to do next.

What users say

On Trustpilot, HumaLingo holds a TrustScore of 4.1 from 713 reviews as of October 2026, and opinions split sharply: 449 reviews give five stars and 126 give one star. Positive reviews mention a quick, easy interface and help with essays, theses and other assignments.

The one-star reviews keep returning to the same problems:

  • Charges after the trial. Reviewers describe subscription charges they say they did not expect once the trial ended.
  • Refused refunds. Reviewers say refund requests were turned down because the service had been used.
  • Trouble canceling. Some reviewers report difficulty stopping their subscription.
  • Human writing flagged as AI. Several say the detector labeled their own work as mostly AI-generated.
  • Rewrites that still read like AI. Others say the humanized output still sounded machine-made, or turned informal and awkward.

The ratings HumaLingo shows on its own site are inconsistent. Its pages display a "4.5/5" badge without naming a review platform, the review count is 12,623 on the pricing page but 14,016 on the tool pages, and its terms say the names or pictures of customers shown on the site have been altered.

Why Essai is the better HumaLingo alternative

  • Start free, with no card. Essai's humanizer handles up to 125 words per request with no signup or credit card, and the AI detector is free. HumaLingo lists no free plan at all.
  • No trial that renews at $39.99. Instead of a $2 trial that renews at $39.99 a month, you start on a free tier and pick a plan only when you need more words: Basic costs $14.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026.
  • A free detector with a clear score. Paste a draft into Essai's detector and get an AI probability score from 0 to 100. A free account adds detailed reports and unlimited scans.
  • One workflow for rewriting and checking. The humanizer and detector live in the same web app, so you can revise a draft and check it right away.
  • A humanizer built to keep your meaning. Essai's humanizer is designed to keep what you meant while making phrasing, rhythm and word choice read naturally, so AI-assisted text reads as human-written. It is also designed to help text pass popular AI detectors.
  • Plans with clear limits. Basic includes 5,000 words a month, Pro 15,000 and Ultra unlimited words with priority support, and every paid plan comes with unlimited AI detection.

Best HumaLingo alternatives

  1. Essai: best overall. An AI humanizer designed to keep your meaning plus a free AI detector, in one app. The free tier needs no signup or credit card, and paid plans start at $9.99 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026.
  2. Phrasly. A humanizer with a free AI detector and one free guest humanization a day, but its $2.00 3-day trial turns into a full plan unless you cancel. Read our Phrasly review.
  3. Undetectable AI. A free AI detector and a free Basic humanizer model, though the company says that model's output may still be flagged, and its stronger model needs a trial or a paid plan. See our Undetectable AI review.
  4. QuillBot. A broad writing suite with an AI detector and a humanizer, but free humanizing stops at 100 words, and its humanizer page says the tool isn't meant for evading AI detection. See our QuillBot review.
  5. GPTZero. The dedicated detector HumaLingo compares itself with. It has no humanizer, so you would still need a second tool to revise your drafts. See our GPTZero review.

HumaLingo review: the verdict

HumaLingo bundles a detector, a humanizer and a plagiarism checker, but it lists no free plan, the $2 trial renews at $39.99 a month (as of October 2026) unless you cancel a day early, and canceling after the trial does not get you a refund. Its accuracy claims also come without published data. Essai is our top pick for students and writers: a humanizer designed to keep your meaning, a free AI detector in the same workflow and a lower month-to-month price. Try both tools free today and upgrade only when your drafts need more words.

Frequently asked questions

Is HumaLingo free?

Not really. As of October 2026, HumaLingo's pricing page lists no free plan, and the company publishes no free word or scan allowance for its detector or humanizer. The cheapest way in is 7-day access for $2.00, which becomes a $39.99 monthly subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Essai, by contrast, lets you humanize up to 125 words per request and use its AI detector at no cost.

How much does HumaLingo cost?

As of October 2026, US visitors see three options: 7-day access for $2.00 that renews at $39.99 a month, a Monthly plan at $19.99 a month and an Annual plan at $9.99 a month billed yearly. Visitors in Europe see euro prices, and verified students get 10% off standard plans through Student Beans. Essai's Basic plan costs $14.99 a month, or $9.99 a month billed yearly.

Can you get a refund from HumaLingo?

Refunds are hard to get. HumaLingo's terms of use say digital access counts as delivered once it becomes available, that the company is not obliged to refund services already delivered, and that canceling after the trial period does not qualify for a refund. To avoid a charge, cancel at least 24 hours before a trial ends, and remember that deleting your account does not cancel the plan.

Is the HumaLingo AI detector accurate?

HumaLingo publishes no accuracy rate or test dataset, and its comparison with GPTZero cites no sources. Its terms describe the services as provided for entertainment purposes. Several Trustpilot reviewers say it flagged their own writing as AI-generated, and published research shows AI detectors often misclassify non-native English writing. For a free second opinion, Essai's AI detector returns an AI probability score from 0 to 100 percent.

Is HumaLingo legit?

HumaLingo is a real product operated by Krivis ai, UAB, a company registered in Vilnius, Lithuania, and it publishes terms of use, subscription terms and a privacy policy. As of October 2026 it holds a 4.1 TrustScore from 713 Trustpilot reviews. Many reviews praise its ease of use, while one-star reviews focus on charges after trials, refused refunds and human writing flagged as AI.

Can I use HumaLingo or Essai for school assignments?

That depends on your school's rules, not on the tool. If your course limits or bans AI help, rewriting a draft does not make it allowed. Check your syllabus or honor code first, disclose AI use where it is required, and keep your notes and drafts so you can show how your work developed. Within those rules, Essai is a fast way to polish your own drafts and check them before you submit.

What is the best HumaLingo alternative?

We recommend Essai as the best HumaLingo alternative for most students and writers. Its AI humanizer is designed to keep your meaning while making phrasing, rhythm and word choice read naturally, and its free AI detector gives an AI probability score from 0 to 100 percent. You can start free with no signup or credit card, and paid plans begin at $9.99 a month billed yearly, as of October 2026.
